About SoLag Skim School
SoLag is for South Laguna
Founder Paulo Prietto created SoLag Skim School in 2004 while competing on the professional tour. South Laguna is considered one of the best places in the world to skimboard—often referred to as the “North Shore” of skimboarding. Paulo reached the top of the professional tour three consecutive years and is regarded as one of the best skimboarders of all time. He has even been featured in the Newport Beach Nautical Museum. While attending Chapman University to become an elementary school teacher, Paulo combined his passion for skimboarding with his formal education and launched SoLag Skim School.
Over time, as SoLag Skim School continued to grow and influence the local skimboarding community, Paulo made the decision to pass the torch. About four years ago, Timmy Gamboa began running the camps. Timmy is one of the school’s original instructors and a deeply respected figure in the Laguna Beach skim scene. Having been part of SoLag since its early days, Timmy brought both experience and a clear vision for the future. His goal has been to build on Paulo’s legacy while elevating the program even further, offering the highest-quality skimboarding instruction and an unforgettable beach experience in Laguna Beach.

Our lessons and camps take place in beautiful Laguna Beach, California. Private lessons are available year-round, while camps are offered during the summer months.
What is Skimboarding?
Skimboarding is a board sport that takes place along the shoreline. Riders use finless boards designed to glide across wet sand and water with speed and control. Skimboarders ride shorebreak waves—waves that break close to shore—and Laguna Beach is home to some of the best skim conditions in the world.
